What’s the best way to pick up a woman in Tampa?
Poopsy asked:
I saw this poor cat picked up by this girl at an unregistered animal home by the scruff of its neck and the cats eyes went all squinty as it would do. I felt so sorry for the cat. Maybe I’m wrong though – maybe this is how it should be handled. She picked it up by the scruff of its neck and then placed it in the crook of her arm. I thought no matter what age the cats/kittens are, that you support it with one hand under it’s chest and the other hand cupping it’s bottom. What’s right?

You’ll soon have all of your friends’ jaws dropping when they see more and more hot women trying to seduce you! These techniques are so powerful, that we have to state that you must agree to use these techniques for moral and ethical purposes only. Start learning them now…

That is how the mother would carry it out in the wild. It would probably be more comfortable to do it with the chest/bottom holding thing, but it shouldn’t hurt the cat to pick it up by the scruff of the neck (probably just slightly uncomfortable).
Since the cat is at a home, that would suggest it is homeless (and by extension more wild than normal housecats). It doesn’t have the training yet. My guess would be if that cat got hurt everyone would know about it by the shrieks and possible swinging claws. Since this didn’t occur, the cat should be fine.

It is ok for a kitten because they are quite light but for an adult cat they are only held by the scruff if they are on surface that is supporting most of their weight. the only time I have ever seen it done where the cat is grabbed by the scruff in the air is if the cat is being aggressive but even that managed to lash out.
You are right about supporting the chest and bottom though and also holding them close to the body the cat feels more secure

It is the way the mother carries them. Should be okay if it’s still a kitten. Not carrying it around like that of course, but to get a hold on a frisky kitty who might be thinking of biting or scratching, it should be alright.

the cat eyes were squinty because every cat dose that and yes that is how u pick up a kitten you only hold cats by putting ur hand under the chest and cupping the bottom with the other

The safest way to pick up a cat you do not know/isn’t yours is to scoop it up – hand under chest and the body tucked under your arm (like a bagpipe) with your other hand resting on the back of the neck ready to scruff if the cat becomes agitated. The cat feels secure and handler is less like to be injured.
The girl at the animal home may have been pinching rather than scruffing and maybe the cat has a problem being picked up and this was the only safe way she could manage

This all depends on the cat. If you KNOW that the cat is friendly and won’t lash-out when you go to pick it up, then the way I do it is: with my R. hand/forearm under the belly/chest area, and my L. hand on the back of the head (at neck area). However, if you are not sure whether this cat is going to fight, scratch, bite, etc., then–YES, picking it up by the scruff of the neck IS the safest way. It may not appear to look too pleasant, but this does NOT hurt them. This is they way a mother cat carries her kittens around from place-to-place. Actually, either way is acceptable—this is for a kitten only, and also depends on the weight of the cat.
Just as a note, I have a 20+ pounder, and I KNOW that if I picked him up by the scruff of the neck, this would HAVE to hurt–having all of that weight hanging from just the neck area–this would NOT be a good idea with a super-large cat. In my case, I have to get around his rib/belly area, and raise him up as if I’m a “human crane”!
