pick up artist?

pick up artist
Shan Patridge asked:

Why do feminist think that show is offensive to women, if there was a show about girls picking up guys to sleep with I wouldn’t care, well I would be kinda confused because if a women wanted to sleep with a guy all she would have to say is take off your pants so I would be thinking why do the need to be taught. ANYWAYS, back to my question why do feminist think the show the pick up artist is offensive to women?

  1. Uh, because it’s showing them different ways to JUST get women into bed.

  2. Because some people are misinformed about the community of pick-up artists. Not every guy, in fact, none of the guys on the show, are looking to sleep with as many women as they can. They are simply seeking the confidence and skills to find someone they care about.

Mystery’s method isn’t designed to “trick” women. It simply is designed to create a window of opportunity. Women put up barriers to protect themselves from being hurt. Unfortunately, this sometimes keeps nice guys from getting in.

These teachings allow a guy to appeal to a women on more than a physical level…. And isn’t that what so many women CLAIM to be attracted to? Personality?

  3. Ok, s I was browsing here for open pick up questions to guage the reaction the show has made and this is the only one but let’s sort this out right now:

Pick Up is not about sleeping with women, OR tricking women into sleeping with you. It is a means of developing social skills that for whatever reason did not develop when you were growing up. Women almost universally learned the rules of the social game, why do you think they all expect to be chased, worry about being perceived as slutty and a thousand other considerations. This is not part of their genetic makeup, but a learning of their current social environment. The pattern for men is broken because the rules are often not explained, our parents, guardians and role models have let us down.

So pick up is designed to patch the holes. Little rules like don’t hesitate when approaching someone you like, should people be offended by this teaching? How about not to appear needy but stay casual? This is the core of it, altering behaviour patterns that make you unnattractive and replacing them with ones that are. It’s about as deceptive as a push up bra, and just like a push up, by the time you’re intimate and you have a connection it doesn’t matter, it helped start interaction. Pick up is a way to meet better people in your life and give them a chance to experience you, to be receptive to the person you are, by giving men the tools to play the dating game with enough efficiency to get to the point where it no longer matters. If you don’t have sincere intentions or you don’t care about her, no amount of material will stop you coming off as a jerk. And no pickup artist ever denies a woman the right to say No, or Go Away. If they were like that, they wouldn’t waste time on material they would be in chem labs making Rohypnol.

As a man I do not take offense to the huge bookstore section of relationship and dating advice for women, the little rules and scenarios that help them “bag” a man. So when a man finds himself let down by his peers in teaching him how to interact with the opposite sex, a little material that gets him talking to you isn’t the end of the world. The alternative is having those good natured quality guys not approaching, and you’ll never get to know them, and it isn’t much consolation that they were “true to themselves” and remained the best you never had.
